Purdah
Purdah meaning ‘curtain’ is a social and religious practice of female seclusion in various communities. The purdah system has gradually diminished in Indian society but the orthodox mentality is still prevalent. This collection is based on metaphorical veils adorned by women of India, still living lives under translucent cloaks from fear of being outcasted and hiding their identity in plain sight. Through the sheer veils, we see underlayers that are hidden from the world yet fighting to take a peek.
